The World Economic Forum recently underlined the appalling status of the environmental situation in Europe. In 2021, the industry emits an annual total of 880 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and equivalents, making the continent one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases.

The industry is also responsible for no less than 30% of the 914 million tons of waste produced in the European Economic Area (EEA). Most of which is not recycled and contributes to polluting lands and water.

Air contamination is also a major consequence of industrial activities and tends to have serious effects on our health (5% of lung cancers are due to extended exposure to pollution).

As a consequence, we need, more than ever, an industrial green transition, but it is easier said than done.

Financial constraints to implement cleaner processes, profit-driven decisions, lack of sustainability expertise and encouraging policies are so many barriers that hinder sustainable manufacturing.

How can Industry 4.0 technologies help tackle these barriers and contribute to a more sustainable manufacturing sector? How will the Manufacturing Industry be the key player in a decarbonised EU?

Would like to join the discussion on Sustainable Manufacturing? Let’s get together! Grab your favourite mug and have a break while learning and establishing a conversation with key stakeholders in the industry in a welcoming and fruitful atmosphere.
